Why did I choose to focus on lead generation, marketing automation, and website personalization and so should you?

I’ve been going through big changes in the past few weeks and it’s about time to share the news with you. After 3 years in The Iuvo, I changed the company I work for! Crazy, right?
I was working for a company based in Toronto, Canada, for a little over 3 years. The Iuvo it’s the full marketing service company working with small and medium businesses from Canada, USA, and Australia. I started to work there as a rookie, from the very bottom, and I managed to climb to the top in 11–12 months when I started to work as a General Manager. I had a huge task to do. I knew all the problems, being part of the team, and I was given a chance to solve them. I worked on creating the culture, creating workflows, figuring out all processes and more. I did all those things!
It was very challenging! I needed to change myself, my way of thinking. I needed to look at things from my teammates perspective. Actually, I was the last one who came to work for the company and I became the General Manager. From their perspective, it maybe wasn’t fair or there were other reasons, but they were all aware that I outworked everyone. Marketing is something that I love doing and I can really work for 18 hours. I’m that crazy, yes.
What I needed to do is changing my perspective. I had to learn that not all of them want to work their ass off every day! Not all of them are crazy. Understandable. :) Some of them just want to work for 8 hours, do a good job, and go home. And that’s perfectly fine. And I learned that.
So we change the culture, established processes, operations, deadlines, relationships with clients and it was all going well. New clients were coming mostly from referrals. Our present clients were very satisfied with the work we were doing for them and they were recommending us to their friends, partners, and their clients. But, the way we worked, it wasn’t enough. We needed to get new clients with sales and we didn’t have anyone from the company working on that. I was pretty much left alone by the owners to run the business. I mean, they are great guys, don’t get me wrong. I consider them my friends. They gave me the opportunity to grow, they gave me the freedom to experiment and to get the company to the place where it was at the time.
Not getting new clients and sales got us in the position where we were stuck in the average. I don’t want to be average. I want to grow or to go down. Nobody wants to go down, right? So the only choice is to constantly change and find ways to grow. That’s why I decided to start finding new clients, besides the fact that I was still doing all the thing I mentioned earlier. I had no choice. I don’t want to do everything. As an ex-basketball player, I’ve always been a team player. It’s not what I like to do, It’s not what I like to do, it’s not my company, after all, but this time I just had no choice.
While I was working over there, I was also working on building my personal brand. In every company I worked for before, I was the one with the biggest personal brand. I was able to influence other people and to really help them grow, learn about marketing, help them with their companies, give them value, but also get the value for the company I worked for. It was never about me. I was sharing my results, I was sharing my failures, I was sharing my know-how and tips that nobody else was sharing. I never wanted to share some bullshit stories like the majority of people does and people really appreciated that. I didn’t look for another job but when you set things up like that, opportunities are coming and I got the offer I just couldn’t reject.
I moved all across the country, from the very south to the very north of Serbia to work in DEFAULT design, a marketing agency focused on marketing automation, website personalization and conversions!
We’re focused on something specific. We’re focused on results. Those are the main reasons I started to work here. What else? Passion! Dimitrije, the owner, and other guys (Jelena, Edin) are really passionate about the work we’re doing. If you’re following me, you can easily see that I’m very passionate about what I’m doing, too. It keeps me motivated!
We are not focused only on outsourcing but on so many different things. Let’s divide it into three topics:
- Clients and the work we’re doing for them
- Development of our digital products — webinars, ebooks, online conferences, personal projects..
- Getting back to the community — speaking engagements, organizing lectures, workshops and other things
Can you feel the atmosphere just by reading all these things we’re working on, daily? It motivates me to come to work every morning and even to continue working when I go home.

In today’s world, where customers are the ones deciding if your business is going up or down, it’s huge!
I repeat customers are the ones who decide your destiny, so your business and your marketing have to be customers-first!
Even today, you fill the form on the website and you wait for someone to get back to you. The only way to get back from someone working in the company is calling them. Helloooo, I don’t want to call anyone today! I don’t even answer my phone if I don’t know the number, or I call them in the time the most suitable to me.
When I’m looking at the product or service I don’t want to think about how the hell this will benefit me. Why should I? If I need to figure out that, if I need to try to find a way how you can help me, then there’s a good chance you’re going to lose me.
